DUI Arraignment WA Criminal Defense Lawyer

DUI Arraignment

WA DUI Lawyer

An arraignment allows you to plead guilty or not guilty in relation to your DUI charges. Your first court appearance is the time you will be arraigned. Washington law requires that the court schedules your arraignment within 14 calendar days. Your first court date will appear on the citation you receive following your arrest.

The court will ask you if you would like to hire an attorney for your first court date in WA. You may be allowed to waive your right of an attorney for your initial appearance, enter a not guilty plea, and return for your next court date approximately 6 weeks later. A plea of not guilty allows you and your attorney to continue working on your case while you preserve your rights in criminal justice. This is not a formal statement to the judge stating that you didn’t do anything wrong but a way for your attorney to continue working on your case.

The court will set the conditions for your release after you have entered a plea of guilty. These conditions include the following:

There are no alcohol or non-prescribed drugs

Keep in touch with your attorney

Sometimes, the court might require additional restrictive conditions such as:

Antabuse

Random Urine or Breath Tests

These conditions will be imposed primarily on the basis of your previous DUIs and your BAC levels. An attorney is a great idea for your DUI arraignment.
